(March 9, 2015)-  Saturday night around 9:20 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a serious injury crash at the intersection of Cape Coral Parkway and Skyline Boulevard.  Responding officers found that two vehicles, a gold Ford Explorer and a white Toyota Camry collided.

The crash investigation revealed that the driver of the white Camry, Ryan C. Knaby, 33, of Ft. Myers, sustained serious bodily injuries in the crash.  He was trauma alerted to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators also determined the driver of the gold Explorer, Mark Edward Moore, 37, of Cape Coral, was Driving Under the Influence.  Moore was charged with DUI, DUI Property Damage, DUI Causing Serious Bodily Injury and transported to Lee County Jail.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: Gold 2007 Ford Explorer SUV.
DRIVER 1: Mark Edward Moore, W/M, 37, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Moore suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

VEHICLE 2: White 2010 Toyota Camry.
DRIVER 2: Ryan C. Knaby, W/M, 33, of Fort Myers, Florida.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Knaby suffered several serious bodily injuries.

SYNOPSIS:  Vehicle 1 was West on Cape Coral Parkway in the South turn lane at Skyline Boulevard.  Vehicle 2 was East on Cape Coral Parkway in the outside lane.  According to a witness, as Vehicle 2 entered into the intersection, Vehicle 1 turned South in front of Vehicle 2.  The front of Vehicle 2 struck the passenger side of Vehicle 1.  Both vehicles rotated and came to rest in the intersection facing opposite directions.

During the traffic crash, the driver of Vehicle 2 was not wearing a seatbelt and was forced forward into the steering wheel and windshield.  The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered several serious bodily injuries and was trauma alerted to a local hospital by ambulance.  The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

While MCI Officer Satterlee was enroute to the scene, the driver of Vehicle 1 was placed under arrest (refused all sobriety tests and refused breath test).  After initial MCI investigation, MCI Officer Satterlee obtained a blood draw search warrant and completed a mandatory blood draw from the driver of Vehicle 1 at the Cape Coral Police Department.  The driver of Vehicle 1 was later transported to Lee County Jail and charged with DUI, DUI Property Damage, DUI Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

The next-of-kin has been notified.  MCI Satterlee, Slover, Forensics Technician Potts responded.  This traffic crash is alcohol/drug related. 

Case pending further criminal investigation by MCI Officer Satterlee.
