(April 4, 2015)- Shortly before 3:00 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a serious injury crash involving a truck and a bicycle at the 900 block of Santa Barbara Boulevard South.
Investigation revealed that the juvenile bicyclist attempted to cross the road, driving off of the sidewalk and into the path of the truck. The bicyclist sustained life threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to a nearby hospital. Later, the bicyclist was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.
Major Crash Investigators, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to assist.

VEHICLE 1: 2006 white Dodge truck.
DRIVER 1: Joshua T. Corkhill, 22, W/M, of San Carlos Park, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: No injuries.
PASSENGER 1: Colette E. Williams, W/F, 20, of Atlantic Beach, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: No injuries.
PASSENGER 2: Brian McGrath, W/M, 25, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: No injuries.
BICYCLIST: JUVENILE, W/M, 14, of Cape Coral, Florida.
BICYCLIST INJURIES: JUVENILE suffered life threatening injuries and was trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.
SYNOPSIS: A 14 year old male, was riding his bicycle South on the West sidewalk of Santa Barbara Boulevard. Vehicle 1 was traveling South on Santa Barbara Boulevard in the middle lane with no other traffic. According to another juvenile that was riding with the injured, JUVENILE said “lets cross the road right now” to go to a store down the road. JUVENILE then immediately drove off the sidewalk directly to the left and into the path of Vehicle 1. Vehicle 1 veered left in attempts to avoid JUVENILE. The front of the bicycle struck Vehicle 1 near the rear of the front passenger tire. The outside passenger rearview mirror then struck JUVENILE in the head and forced him to the ground to final rest. Vehicle 1 DID NOT drive over the bicycle or rider. JUVENILE came to rest in the middle lane. Vehicle 1 came to rest in the inside South lane.
JUVENILE suffered several life threatening injuries and was not conscious on scene. JUVENILE was trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. JUVENILE was NOT wearing a helmet (required under the age of 16- he is 14).
Due to injuries, a Major Crash Investigation has been started. MCI Satterlee, Sgt. O’Grady and Cpt. Torregrossa responded to the scene. V.A. Seymour was notified. This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related.
