(May 23, 2015)- A teenage female was hospitalized with serious injuries after a single vehicle crash last evening.

At around 7:30 PM, Cape Coral Police Department responded to the 500 block of NW 16 Place.  Investigation revealed that a teenage girl who was riding on the hood of a car in a neighborhood, slid off the car and stuck her head on road, sustaining a life threatening injury.

Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocate responded to the scene.

The victim was taken as a trauma alert to a local hospital.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below.

VEHICLE: 2010 black 4 door Suzuki car.
DRIVER: JUVENILE #1, 16 YO W/F of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER INJURIES: JUVENILE #1 suffered no injuries.

PASSENGER 1: JUVENILE #2, W/F, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: JUVENILE #2 suffered no injuries.

PASSENGER 2: JUVENILE #3, 16 YO W/F, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: JUVENILE #3 suffered life threatening injuries.

SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1 was in the driveway of a residence in the 500 block of NW 16 Place with two juvenile females inside.  A third female, JUVENILE #3, came outside and sat on the front hood of the vehicle toward the passenger side.  The vehicle backed out of the driveway and drove North on NW 16 Place at a slow speed (7-10 mph).  Vehicle 1 traveled 1 city block and slowed to make a left turn (headed a house nearby) and JUVENILE #3 slid off the passenger side of the car toward the front passenger tire.  JUVENILE #3's right foot got caught under the right front tire as she came off the vehicle.  JUVENILE #3 then struck her head on the roadway.  The vehicle came to an immediate stop and police were called.

JUVENILE #3 was trauma alerted to a local hospital by ambulance with a life threatening head injury.  MCI Satterlee, Forensics personnel, and Cape Coral Police Department Victim Advocate responded.  All evidence was consistent with driver and passenger statements.  The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified.  This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related.  There are no criminal charges pending.  Due to injuries, case pending further follow-up.

JUVENILE #3 is listed in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital.  JUVENILE #3 is being admitted for observations.

***There are 5 traffic fatalities and 22 MCI usages in our city in 2015. (There are 1 fatalities that are ruled "medical" and the cause of death is not related to injuries in the traffic crash. These 1 "medical" fatalities are not included in the number of traffic fatalities).***
