(July 18, 2015)- A passenger who was hospitalized after falling from the bed of a pickup truck has died.
The crash occurred on July 9, 2015 at around 10:00 PM. 23 year-old Timothy Francis Holland was riding in the back of a pickup truck and fell out as the vehicle was leaving the parking lot of Stevie Tomato's Sports Page on SW Pine Island Rd.
Holland sustained serious injuries at the time of the crash and was hospitalized. A Cape Coral Police Department Major Crash Investigator was notified that Holland died this morning as a result of his injuries.
Alcohol is a factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
Preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:
DATE OF CRASH: July 9, 2015
TIME: 10:00 PM
LOCATION: 800 block of SW 4th Street
VEHICLE 1 (V-1): A 2001, black Dodge Ram 1500 truck.
DRIVER 1 (D-1): Corey Joseph Morgan, W/M, 25, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Morgan did not sustain any injuries from the traffic crash.
PASSENGER 1 (P-1): Travis Brett Robey, W/M, 21, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Robey did not sustain any injuries from the traffic crash.
PASSENGER 2 (P-2): Timothy Francis Holland, W/M, 23, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: Holland sustained fatal injuries as a result of the traffic crash.
SYNOPSIS: V-1 was making a right turn, leaving the rear parking lot of Stevie Tomato's Sports Page (814 SW Pine Island Rd) parking lot. The parking lot driveway is located at the 800 block of SW 4th St.
As V-1 was leaving the parking lot, P-2 who was riding the cargo area (bed of truck) of V-1, stood up and leaned forward on the left rear side of V-1’s cab. As P-2 was leaning on the cab of V-1, the reached toward the driver’s window with one of his hand to gain the driver’s attention. While attempting to gain the attention of the driver, P-2 lost his balance and fell out of V-1’s cargo area. P-2 then fell to the roadway where he came to final rest. D-1 and P-1 immediately stopped V-1 to check on P-2. Upon noticing the injuries of P-2, D-1 and P-1 placed P-2 in the cargo area of V-1 and drove him directly to the hospital.
While at the hospital, P-2 was treated for his injuries and later transferred to another local hospital. P-2 died as a result of his injuries on July 18, 2015.
Due to the injuries P-2 sustained from the crash, Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Investigative Services Bureau Detectives responded to the scene. Alcohol is a factor in this traffic crash.
