(July 3, 2015)- A Cape Coral man is behind bars after slashing another man with a knife.
Lat night around 9:10 PM, Cape Coral Police were investigating a disturbance in the 4900 block of York Street, when they heard another disturbance in progress nearby in the east parking lot of the Parker House Apartments located at 808 Miramar Street. Officers heard a loud argument followed by observing a dark colored SUV, revving its engine and pumping its breaks before departing the area and out of view.
An Officer who was responding to the second disturbance was almost hit by the SUV near Cape Coral Parkway and Coronado. The officer made an evasive maneuver, and got behind the car, making a traffic stop on the SUV in the CVS parking lot. The SUV was driven by Michael Loeffel, 50, of Cape Coral.
Additional Officers who responded to the second disturbance were flagged down by the victim, who stated he'd just been stabbed by a white male who drove off in an SUV. The victim suffered a laceration to the arm.
Investigation revealed that Loeffel came to that location and got into a verbal altercation with the victim in the parking lot. The altercation became physical and Loeffel armed himself with a knife and slashed at the victim, striking the victim in the arm and causing a laceration. Witnesses also reported that Loeffel attempted to strike the victim with his SUV as he was fleeing the scene.
A knife matching the description of what the victim said was used was located in the SUV's center console.
Based on the victim's statement and injury, corroborating witness testimony, and physical evidence, Loeffel was placed under arrest for Aggravated Battery and transported to the Lee County Jail.
