(July 5, 2015)-  Cape Coral Police are investigating a fatality crash that occurred last night.

At around 10:30 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a two vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Skyline Boulevard. All occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries that resulted in them being transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Cape Coral Police Department Patrol, Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to assist.

During the overnight hours, one of the passengers, Paul Ortiz, 84, died at the hospital.  Preliminary investigation revealed that this crash is alcohol related.  Criminal charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

VEHICLE 1: 2014 blue Kia Forte 2 door car.
DRIVER 1: Montaigu A. Moselle, W/M, 36, of Pawtucket, RI.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Moselle suffered serious injuries in the traffic crash (transported to a local hospital).

VEHICLE 2: 2015 grey Chevrolet Impala car.
DRIVER 2: Paul WE. Ortiz, W/M, 55.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Ortiz suffered life threatening injuries (transported to a local hospital).

PASSENGER 1: Kathleen Ortiz, W/F, 57, of, New Jersey.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Ortiz suffered minor injuries (transported to a local hospital).

PASSENGER 2: Joan Ortiz, W/F, 78, of Salem, SC.
PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: Ortiz suffered major injuries (transported to a local hospital).

PASSENGER 3: Paul Ortiz, W/M, 84, of Salem, SC.
PASSENGER 3 INJURIES: Ortiz suffered fatal injuries (died later at the hospital).

SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1 was east on Veterans Memorial Parkway approaching Skyline Boulevard in the outside north turn lane.  Vehicle 1 came to a stop.  Vehicle 2 was west on Veterans Memorial Parkway in the inside straight lane approaching Skyline Boulevard.  According to several witnesses, east and westbound traffic had a solid green light for straight traffic, and solid red turn arrows for the north and south turn lanes.

According to witnesses, Vehicle 1 entered into the intersection to turn north and drove directly into the path of Vehicle 2 that was traveling at normal speed (approximately 50 mph).  Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 2 head on.  Vehicle 2 was forced to the northwest and came to rest against the curb, facing northwest.  Vehicle 2 was forced to the West and came to rest in the median on the West side of Skyline Boulevard, still on Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Officers arrived on scene immediately and located the driver of Vehicle 1 in the driver’s seat.  The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered multiple serious injuries and was trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital.  The two rear passengers of Vehicle 2 suffered life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.  The driver and front passenger of Vehicle 2 suffered what were initially believed to be minor injuries.  However, a passenger in vehicle 2 died at the hospital overnight.

This traffic crash IS ALCOHOL related.  The next of kin HAS BEEN notified.  This case is pending further criminal investigation.
