(August 4, 2015)- A Cape Coral man on a riding lawnmower was hospitalized after it rolled over onto him, pinning him in a NE Cape Coral Canal.
Yesterday morning around 11:30 AM, Cape Coral Police Department responded on a personal injury call in the 2100 block of NE 10 Pl.
A 54 year-old male on a commercial size mower accidentally drove off a seawall behind a residence and was pinned beneath the mower in shallow water. Field Training Officers T. Wagner and D. Costa with their assigned trainees N. Keating and D. Mitchell were able to jump into the canal and free the subject from beneath the mower.
With the assistance of nearby Public Works employees who saw the accident and came to help, responders were able to lift him over the seawall and into the back yard where Cape Coral Fire Department personnel performed CPR.
The subject was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Cape Coral Police Department Forensics responded and the Investigative Services Bureau was notified.
"This was a fantastic team effort. As of right now, the subject's condition has improved since yesterday morning and he is alert and communicating with family and medical staff. The family has requested privacy at this time."- Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer.
