(October 10, 2016)- A traffic stop for a minor equipment violation led to an arrest on firearms and drug charges.
Just before 9:00 PM, Cape Coral Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a tail light being out in the 600 block of SE 47 Terrace. The officer made contact with the driver, Randall Armstrong, 30, of Cape Coral, who immediately stated that his driver license was suspended. Armstrong also told officers that he had a firearm in his front pocket. Armstrong was detained and officers were able to take a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson MP Shield from his pocket without incident.
The investigation revealed that Armstrong did not have a concealed weapons permit and was driving knowingly on a suspended drivers license. A clear plastic baggie of marijuana was also found in Armstrong’s other pocket. Armstrong was arrested for Carrying Concealed Firearm, DWLSR (Knowingly) and Possession of Marijuana under 20 Grams. He was taken to Lee County Jail.
