(October 11, 2016)- A traffic stop for speeding on Friday night led to the discovery of a large amount of marijuana and a firearm.
Friday night, just before 10:00 PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Del Prado Boulevard South. The driver, later identified as Eric Day, 21, of Fort Myers, was stopped for speeding.
During the stop, the officer could smell a faint odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Cape Coral Police Department K9 Unit responded to assist. While conducting an open-air sniff, K9 “Carbon,” alerted on the vehicle. The driver was detained and a narcotics investigation ensued.
During the vehicle search, officers found a hidden compartment under the center console that had two, one-gallon Ziploc bags full of marijuana and a Smith and Wesson revolver inside of it.
The prepackaged weight for the Marijuana was 223.5 grams (approximately 1/2 pound).
Day was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with intent to Sell and was transported to the Lee County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
