(October 17, 2016)- A convicted felon illegally carrying a firearm, as well as drug paraphernalia, was taken off the streets.
On October 16th, officers conducting directed patrol in the area of 935 Country Club Blvd (Circle K) observed a vehicle being driven by Tyler Southwick (DOB: 3-7-88) commit a traffic infraction. As officers were about to turn on their emergency lights to stop the vehicle, Southwick came to an abrupt stop in the nearby industrial park, got out of his car and ducked behind a truck.
The officers caught up to Southwick and saw that there were loose .38 Special rounds on the ground where he was standing. A “rig” for injecting heroin was found in Southwick’s pants pocket and a .38 caliber revolver was recovered from his vehicle. It was determined that Southwick had stolen the revolver during a vehicle burglary the previous night. He had unloaded the gun and threw the rounds on the ground to prevent being charged with them because he is a convicted felon.
The victim of the previously unreported burglary was located and the stolen firearm connected to the incident. Southwick was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and he was transported to the Lee County Jail. Burglary charges are pending.
