(December 3, 2016)-  Cape Coral Police are investigating a morning motorcycle crash that has claimed one life.

At around 10:00 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 3300 block of Del Prado Boulevard North.

Responding officers found that a single motorcycle led the roadway, ejecting the rider/driver, identified as Matthew Stephen Cusson, W/M,28, of Cape Coral.  Cusson was taken as a trauma-alert to a local hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries.

Patrol, Major Crash Investigator, and Forensics responded to investigate this crash, which had northbound Del Prado shut down for a couple of hours.  A Ping4 alert was also sent, warning drivers and residents.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1:  2009 black/red Honda CBR 600RR Motorcycle.
DRIVER 1:  Matthew Stephen Cusson, W/M, 09-10-1988, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES:  Cusson died at Lee Memorial Hospital due to injuries suffered in the traffic crash.

SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1, a motorcycle, was traveling North in the 3300 block of Del Prado Boulevard North at a high rate of speed (approximately 100 mph according to a witness).  Vehicle 1 failed to negotiate a left turn in the roadway and continued straight.  Vehicle 1 struck the outside curb and exited the roadway.  The driver of Vehicle 1 was ejected and struck the sidewalk and came to final rest in the grassy shoulder of the roadway.  Vehicle 1 continued straight and struck a berm and came to final rest in a ditch. 

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered life threatening injuries and was trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital.  Due to injuries, MCI Officers Gray, Satterlee, and Victim Advocate responded.  At 11:18 AM, the driver of Vehicle 1 died due to injuries suffered in the traffic crash.

It is unknown if this crash is drug/alcohol related.  The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified.  A Traffic Homicide Investigation is being conducted.
