(December 5, 2016) -  A vehicle left the roadway at the 400 block of Nicholas Parkway East and crashed into a home, badly injuring the driver and causing significant damage to the home.

Saturday morning at around 2:00 AM, the vehicle took a slight right turn at the bend at the 400 block of Nicholas Parkway East. The vehicle failed to take the left turn at the subsequent bend, continuing straight and off the roadway to the right. The vehicle entered onto the property at 422 Nicholas Parkway East and struck the front corner of the garage. Two vehicles within the garage suffered damage; the occupants of the home at the time were not injured.

Cape Coral Police Patrol units, Forensics, and Major Crash Investigators responded to the scene. The driver, identified as Emily Zyvoloski, 33, sustained life-threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to a local hospital. The impact with the garage left the home with significant structural damage.

A criminal investigation regarding this crash is underway, and this traffic crash IS alcohol-related.  Charges are pending.

Zyvoloski is currently employed by the Cape Coral Police Department as an officer, but was off-duty and in a private vehicle at the time of the crash.  She has been employed by the Cape Coral Police Department as a police officer since 2007.

Zyvoloski will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We hold ourselves and our officers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off-duty.  This crash is being investigated just like any other would be under similar circumstances.  At the conclusion of the criminal investigation, the Professional Standards Bureau will conduct an internal investigation," said Chief Dave Newlan.
