(May 27, 2016)-  Cape Coral Police Detectives  have made an arrest in a case that caught people's attention on social media.

Yesterday afternoon, the Cape Coral Police Department posted a news release appealing for the public's help in locating a burglary suspect.  The release included a surveillance photo of the suspect, a young, white female with a black tube top and tight ripped jeans (see link below).  On Facebook alone, the story reached over 26,000 people and was shared over 250 times.

Almost immediately, the Cape Coral Police Department began receiving tips from people online as to the identity of the suspect.  Yesterday, detectives made contact with the suspect and have been working the case ever since.

This afternoon, Detectives from our Property Crimes Unit have arrested Rainey Bennett, W/F, DOB: 08-05-1997, of 1417 NE 4 Place, Cape Coral, on charges of Unoccupied Burglary and Grand Theft.

"The response we got on social media was instant, overwhelming, and very consistent.  Thanks to the community, we were able to make a quick identification and apprehension," Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer.
