When the traffic light for Vehicle 2 changed to a solid green, Vehicle 2 proceeded south, into the intersection.
According to a witness and evidence, Vehicle 1 had a solid green (straight, not turn arrow) light. Vehicle 1 then turned into the path of Vehicle 2. The front right of Vehicle 1 collided with the front of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 remained in the center of the roadway at final rest and Vehicle 2 was redirected to the southwest corner of the intersection where it drove off the roadway and struck a pedestrian crossing light pole and then came to final rest.
The right front passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention. All other occupants in both vehicles suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
MCI officers Satterlee, D. Gray, Forensics personnel, and DRE Officer Carson responded. During the investigation, the injuries to the right front passenger were determined to not be life threatening. Upon direction from Officer Satterlee, DRE Carson completed a DUI investigation on scene. Upon completion of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of Vehicle 1 was impaired at the time of the traffic crash, and arrested.
