(June 20, 2016)- Cape Coral Police want to provide an update regarding the police officers involved in the June 5, 2016, active shooter incident that claimed the lives of Jeremy C. Taylor, 54 and Sean Strickland, 26, both of Cape Coral.
Cape Coral Police confirm that four officers were involved in the high-risk traffic stop and subsequent violent encounter that resulted in the death of the shooter. None of the involved officers were injured in the confrontation with the suspect. All four are currently on administrative duty, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
"We are happy to report that the officers are doing well and are back to work on administrative duty. Once the criminal investigations are concluded, the Professional Standards Bureau of the Cape Coral Police Department will conduct an administrative review of the shooting. This is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings," Det. Sergeant Dana Coston, Cape Coral Police Department Public Affairs Officer.
