(July 15, 2016)- Cape Coral Narcotics Detectives took down a drug dealer yesterday evening who didn't want to go quietly, assaulting officers, wrecking a car, and running through a residential neighborhood.
During the past several weeks the Vice, Intelligence, and Narcotics (VIN) Unit conducted controlled purchases of cocaine from Thad A. Yother, 26, of Ft. Myers.
Yesterday evening around 7:45 PM with the assistance of the Cape Coral Police Department Street Crimes Unit (SCU) and K9 Unit, VIN conducted a buy/bust operation in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store located at 924 NE Pine Island Rd. During the takedown, Yother ignored officers' commands and fled in a vehicle, intentionally striking an occupied SCU vehicle and intentionally swerving at two other officers. He then fled at a high rate of speed, driving on and off-road in an attempt to escape arrest.
A short time later, Yother lost control and crashed into a power pole support wire at NE Pine Island Ln. and NE 15th Ave. and then fled on foot. He was apprehended after a lengthy foot chase and with the assistance of a Taser.
