(July 28, 2016)-  The Cape Coral Police Department was recently awarded with a piece of life-saving equipment thanks to a grant provided by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

This year, Firehouse Subs reached a huge landmark and opened their 1,000th restaurant.  To celebrate this milestone, Firehouse Subs and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Co-Founders Robin Sorensen & Chris Sorensen through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation committed one million dollars to provide police departments with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for their cruisers. The Firehouse Subs restaurant community was asked to reach out to their local police with the opportunity to apply for this grant.  In partnership with our local Firehouse Subs Restaurant at 2612 Santa Barbara Blvd., the Cape Coral Police Department applied for, and was awarded, this grant.

Last Thursday, the department was presented with one AED that includes 2 sets of electrodes, battery charger, carry case, and rescue mask kit.  The Department currently has a limited number of officers with an AED in their vehicle.  Adding an additional AED on the road will increase the Cape Coral Police Department's ability to provide emergency medical care when necessary.

For those that may not know, an AED, is a medical device that analyzes heart rhythms in persons having a cardiac event, and when necessary, applies an electric shock in the attempt to restore a regular heartbeat.  These devices have saved countless lives across the country.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was established in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina by firefighting brothers, and restaurateurs, Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen. With a commitment to providing first responders with life-saving equipment and resources, the Foundation has awarded more than $20 million to public safety organizations throughout the country.
