(January 6, 2017) - An early morning car burglary where the suspect used a sword to break a window ended in an arrest after residents heard the sound and contacted police.

On January 6, 2017 at around 8:00am, Cape Coral Police were contacted by a citizen who had heard glass breaking in their driveway and gone to investigate. The resident saw a suspect leaving on a red cruiser-style bicycle, and gave dispatch an excellent description of the suspect and the bicycle.

Patrol officers responded to the area and located a red cruiser-style bicycle in a yard at the 200 block of NW 3rd Lane. Contact with the residents at that location was made, and the burglary suspect was identified as Diego Dorcely (DOB: 5-13-99). Further investigation located the sword used to break the window, as well as property possibly connected to several other open burglary cases. Dorcely was placed under arrest and charged with armed burglary and criminal mischief, with other charges possibly pending.

"This case illustrates the importance of locking vehicles. Criminals will commit crime; the victim in this case made it hard for the criminal, to where a glass break led to a witness, and a witness led to an arrest. This case was made possible by the excellent partnership between our citizens and police."
