(January 9, 2017) - A man punched another bar patron in plain sight of an officer, then ran from the officer into his truck and fled the scene. His escape did not go well, as he only managed minutes later and a short distance away to get into a crash and encounter yet another officer.

On January 6, 2017, officers were patrolling in the area of the Dixie Roadhouse at 1023 SE 47th Terrace. A Cape Coral police officer witnessed Michael Fernandes Jr. (DOB: 7-1-94) punch another patron. The officer gave orders for Fernandes to stop, but he fled on foot into his pickup truck and left the scene.

A short time later another Cape Coral officer responded to a hit-and-run crash at the 4000 block of Del Prado Boulevard. The hit-and-run vehicle and driver was located, and further investigation and correspondence between the officers revealed that Fernandes was the suspect in both of these incidents. Fernandes was placed under arrest and charged with battery and resisting an officer without violence for the bar incident; he was additionally charged with the hit-and-run crash and possession of cocaine for the second incident.
