(November 24, 2017)-  Cape Coral Police Major Crash Investigators are investigating a crash yesterday that sent 2 people to the hospital and shut down Veterans Memorial Parkway for hours.

Yesterday afternoon, around 3:40 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a crash in the eastbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Parkway at Country Club Boulevard.  Responding officers found that three vehicles were involved and that occupants of two of the vehicles sustained very serious injuries.  As a result, the Major Crash Investigator responded and took over the investigation.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

ASSIGNED MCI: Officer C. Mills

VEHICLE 1: 2001 white Ford Mustang 2-door car.
DRIVER 1: Kenneth A. Graves, 36, B/M, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES:   Graves suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 2: 2006 blue Toyota Prius 4-door car.
DRIVER 2: Kennya L. Gonzalez Ojeda, 32, W/F, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES:   Gonzalez Ojeda suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 3: 2012 black Chevrolet Equinox SUV, Florida tag# EYUF92.
DRIVER 3: Crystal M. Binkley, 34, W/F, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER 3 INJURIES:   Binkley was not injured in the crash.
PASSENGER 1: Susan K. Seachrest, 55, W/F, of Cape Coral, Florida.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Seachrest was not injured in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:  Vehicle 1 was traveling westbound on CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East) approaching the intersection of Country Club Boulevard. Vehicle 2 was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East) just east of Country Club Boulevard. Vehicle 3 was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East) just behind Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 lost traction and began rotating across the westbound travel lanes and left turn lanes of CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East). Vehicle 1 then crossed over the raised median, went airborne, and struck Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 then continued rotating across the eastbound lanes of CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East) where Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 3. Vehicle 1 came to final rest on the outside shoulder of eastbound CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East). Vehicle 2 came to final rest in the inside lane of CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East). Vehicle 3 came to final rest on the outside shoulder of eastbound CR 884 (Veterans Parkway East).

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. 

The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Due to injuries, MCI Officers A. Satterlee and C. Mills responded.  DRE Officer H. Esterle and Victim Advocate also responded.

This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related.  The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified.  A follow up criminal investigation will be conducted.

***There are 15 traffic fatalities and 39 MCI usages in our city in 2017. (There are 0 fatalities that are ruled "medical" and the cause of death is not related to injuries in the traffic crash.  These 0 “medical” fatalities are not included in the number of traffic fatalities).***
