(April 14, 2017) - A t-bone crash on Pine Island Road yesterday afternoon sent 4 people to the hospital.
At around 3:00 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a t-bone crash in front of 1651 NE Pine Island Road (Lowe's/Steak 'N Shake.) A car making a left turn into the parking lot of Lowe's was t-boned by another car that had passed stopped traffic on the right and entered a safety area, not a proper lane. Occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries, with two sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocate responded to the scene. The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: 2008 blue Ford Escape SUV
DRIVER 1: Glen Albert Lazzeri, W/M, DOB: 7-29-54, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Lazzeri suffered minor injuries.
PASSENGER 1: Ranell Collenne Lazzeri, W/F, DOB: 11-6-64, of Cape Coral, FL.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Lazzeri suffered minor injuries and was transported to Cape Coral Hospital.
VEHICLE 2: 2004 Chevrolet Impala car
DRIVER 2: Donald W. Tinder, W/M, DOB: 1-1-59, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Tinder suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
PASSENGER 1: Sabrina Lee Gravitt, W/F, DOB: 3-17-58, of Cape Coral, FL.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Sabrina Gravitt suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
PASSENGER 2: Timothy Brian Gravitt, W/M, DOB: 4-11-80, of Fort Myers, FL.
PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: Gravitt suffered life threatening injuries.
Vehicle 1 was West on NE Pine Island Road in the 1700 block in the outside lane. Vehicle 2 was East on NE Pine Island Road in the inside lane. A Witness was West on NE Pine Island Road in the outside lane in the 1700 block ahead of Vehicle 1.
According to the Witness, he came to a stop in traffic (outside lane) and the inside lane to his left came to a complete stop. Seeing that it was clear, Vehicle 2 entered into the turn lane to turn into the parking lot of Lowe’s/Steak’n Shake (1651 NE Pine Island Road). Vehicle 2 crossed over the two stopped West lanes and began to enter the entrance lane of the parking lot. Vehicle 1, who was traveling West approaching the stopped vehicles in the outside lane, passed the witness on the right side. Vehicle 1 drove over/through several safety areas (white striped traffic control lines/areas on the roadway) improperly, and was passing the Witness when Vehicle 2 appeared in front of Vehicle 1. The front of Vehicle 1 struck the passenger side of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 was forced to the West and came to final rest off the West side of the roadway. Vehicle 1 came to final rest near the area of impact.
The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries. The passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for medical attention. The driver of Vehicle 2 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention. The front passenger and rear passenger of Vehicle 2 suffered life threatening injuries, and both were trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital. The front passenger is listed in critical condition, while the rear passenger is listed in critical but stable condition.
Due to injuries a Major Crash Investigation is being conducted. THI Satterlee, Forensics Buckner, and VA Lucas responded. This crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related. All next-of-kins HAVE BEEN contacted.
