(April 27, 2017) - A traffic stop for illegally crossing a median ended in the arrest of a convicted felon for possession of a firearm as well as cocaine.

On the evening of April 26th, Cape Coral police stopped a vehicle at the 1200 block of Andalusia Boulevard for crossing the median illegally. Upon approach the officer could see the front seat passenger, Conelius M. Hicks (DOB: 11-4-85) moving around his seat and reaching down by the passenger door. Hicks then exited the vehicle without being told to do so and said he was leaving. The officer walked up to Hicks and saw the passenger door open with a .45 caliber Kimber handgun wedged between the seat and the door jamb. Hicks was immediately detained, and it was discovered that Hicks was a convicted felon on parole and should not be in possession of a firearm.

Several baggies of cocaine were located on the passenger side floorboard where only Hicks had access to. The firearm was determined to have been stolen out of Cape Coral, and CCPD detectives were notified of the recovery. Hicks was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine, and was transported to the Lee County Jail.
