(April 28, 2017)- Cape Coral Police Major Crash Investigator is investigating a Thursday afternoon crash that sent both drivers to the hospital.
Around 1:30 PM yesterday, Cape Coral Police responded to a crash in the 1300 block of Cape Coral Parkway West, involving two vehicles that crashed head-on.
The drivers of both vehicles were hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries.
Major Crash Investigator, Victim advocate, and Forensics personnel responded to the scene to assist. The roadway was partially obstructed for almost 2 hours as the Major Crash Investigator conducted the investigation. A Ping4 alert was sent, warning drivers and residents in the area.
The initial information indicates that alcohol is a factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: 2009 black Nissan Versa four door car.
DRIVER 1: Dolores Corinne Fiorentini, W/F, 77, of Cape Coral, FL, 33914.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Fiorentini suffered possible life-threatening injuries in the collision.
VEHICLE 2: 1999 white Ford F-350 pickup truck.
DRIVER 2: Sebastian Lopez Gonzalez, W/M, 50, of Cape Coral, FL, 33914.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Gonzalez suffered minor injuries in the crash.
SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1 was traveling on the wrong side of the roadway, west in the east inside lane, at the 1300-block of Cape Coral Parkway W. Vehicle 2 was traveling east in the east center lane at the 1300-block of Cape Coral Parkway W. As Vehicle 1 approached oncoming traffic, it swerved from the inside to the center lane, still traveling in the wrong direction, and collided with Vehicle 2. The front of Vehicle 1 collided with the front left portion of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 was then propelled backwards, crossed over the center median and came to final rest facing to the southwest in the center median turn lane of Cape Coral Parkway W at the intersection with SW 13th Avenue. Vehicle 2 came to final rest in the east center lane of Cape Coral Parkway W.
The driver of Vehicle 1 sustained possible life threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to a local hospital. The driver of Vehicle 2 sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Due to the injuries sustained by the driver of Vehicle 1, Officer Gray responded and conducted a major crash investigation. Victim Advocate and Forensics personnel also responded. The driver of Vehicle 1 was found to have a medical BAC of .222.
This crash IS drug/alcohol related. The next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified for all involved.
