(April 5, 2017)- Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash that happened last night, tying up Del Prado Boulevard, and sending one pedestrian to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Last night around 8:30 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in the 2300 block of Del Prado Boulevard S. A white Kia Rio struck a pedestrian who was crossing Del Prado Boulevard in an area other than a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to a local hospital. Patrol, Major Crash Investigator, Forensics, and Victim Advocates responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

ASSIGNED MCI: Officer D. Gray
VEHICLE 1: 2015 white Kia Rio car.
DRIVER 1: Joy Pamela Zelaya Sagastizado, 50, W/F, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Sagastizado was not injured in the collision.
VEHICLE 1 PASSENGER: Justin Michael Reisler, 31, B/M, of Cape Coral, FL.
VEHICLE 1 PASSENGER INJURIES: Reisler was not injured in the collision.
PEDESTRIAN 1: NAME WITHHELD, 51, W/M, of Ft Lauderdale, FL.
PEDESTRIAN 1 INJURIES: Pedestrian suffered life threatening injuries.
SYNOPSIS: Vehicle 1 was traveling south in the 2300-block of Del Prado Blvd S, in the outside lane. Pedestrian was walking west across Del Prado Blvd S at approximately the 2300-block, not at a marked pedestrian crosswalk, and accompanied by another unidentified pedestrian. The driver of Vehicle 1 saw the unidentified pedestrian dart suddenly from left to right in front of her vehicle in the outside lane and swerved to the left to avoid colliding with that pedestrian. Vehicle 1 moved into the center lane and collided with Pedestrian. Pedestrian was propelled onto the hood/windshield of Vehicle 1 and then came to final rest on the roadway in the outside lane. Vehicle 1 came to final rest at the entrance to the businesses located at 2314 Del Prado Blvd S. The unidentified pedestrian left the scene on foot, northbound on Del Prado Blvd S, without leaving any identifying information. Off-duty Cape Coral Officers Cieslinski and Tobler arrived on scene shortly after the collision and rendered first aid until the arrival of paramedics. Pedestrian may have been texting on his phone at the time he was struck by Vehicle 1.
The driver and passenger of Vehicle 1 were not injured in the collision. Pedestrian suffered life threatening injuries and was trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital. Pedestrian is listed in critical condition. Pedestrian was found to have a medical BAC of .345.
MCI Officer D. Gray, Forensic personnel, and a Victim Advocate responded. This crash IS drug/alcohol related. The next-of-kin HAVE NOT BEEN notified for Pedestrian.
