(May 22, 2017) - The Cape Coral Police Department investigated a serious traffic crash overnight that claimed one life and temporarily shut down the roadway.
At approximately 1:17 a.m., Cape Coral police officers responded to the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Trafalgar Parkway for a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a Chevrolet Camaro. The motorcyclist was killed; the driver and passengers in the Camaro were unhurt.
A Cape Coral Police Victim Advocate and Forensics responded to the scene. The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: Black 1995 Honda Nighthawk 750 motorcycle.
DRIVER 1: Joshua Robert Williams, W/M, DOB: 1-9-1996, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Williams suffered fatal injuries in the traffic crash.
VEHICLE 2: Black 2011 Chevrolet Camaro.
VEHICLE 2 DRIVER: Matthew Dylan Garrett, W/M, DOB 2-1-1999, of Cape Coral, FL.
VEHICLE 2 DRIVER INJURIES: Garrett was not injured in the crash.
VEHICLE 2 PASSENGER 1: Anthony Joseph Christopher Setzer, W/M, DOB: 10-16-1998, of Cape Coral, FL.
VEHICLE 2 PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Setzer was not injured in the crash.
VEHICLE 2 PASSENGER 2: Juvenile, W/M, 16yoa, of Cape Coral, FL.
VEHICLE 2 PASSENGER 2 INJURIES: Juvenile was not injured in the crash.
Vehicle 1 was traveling south on Santa Barbara Blvd in the center lane, approaching the intersection with Trafalgar Pkwy at a high speed. Vehicle 2 was traveling east on Trafalgar Pkwy approaching the intersection with Santa Barbara Blvd, and entered the left of two left turn lanes, where it came to a stop for a red traffic light.
When the traffic light for east traffic on Trafalgar Pkwy changed to green, Vehicle 2 began to move forward into the intersection. The driver of Vehicle 1 lost control of the vehicle and it came down on its right side. The driver of Vehicle 1 separated from the vehicle.
Vehicle 1 continued to slide south on Santa Barbara Blvd in the center lane and on its right side, into the intersection with Trafalgar Pkwy and passed in front of Vehicle 2; Vehicle 1 continued south crossing from the center lane into the outside lane and collided with the curb on the right side of the roadway. Vehicle 1 came to final rest with its front wheel facing north, positioned in the drainage channel to the right of the outside south lane of Santa Barbara Blvd.
After separating from Vehicle 1, the driver of Vehicle 1 slid south in the center lane into the intersection, collided with the left front quarter of Vehicle 2, and then passed underneath the front bumper. The driver of Vehicle 1 then continued to slide south through the intersection and came to rest across the inside and center south lanes. Vehicle 2 came to final rest in the intersection immediately after the collision.
The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver and passengers of Vehicle 2 were not injured. The driver of Vehicle 1 was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash.
THI Officer D. Gray responded. A Victim Advocate and a Forensic Technician also responded. It is not known if alcohol is a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
