(May 26, 2017)-  A minor bicycle infraction led Cape Coral Police to solve one burglary and potentially prevent plenty more.

Shortly after 2:00 AM, Cape Coral Police stopped Wyatt Long and Nathan Michlec at the 1300 block of Chiquita Boulevard South for riding their bikes with no lights on them.

Long and Michlec both had on backpacks and were each wearing a glove. Long and Michlec could not give a reason for being in the area or why they were both wearing a glove. Inside of Long’s backpack officers found miscellaneous change, lighters, a phone charger, and several other items, including a hammer, a screwdriver, two putty knifes and gloves.

The investigation revealed  that Long and Michlec had just burglarized a vehicle and the items taken from the vehicle were the items in his backpack.  Officers also determined that the duo was going to use the tools from Michlec’s backpack to break into other vehicles and that they were wearing the gloves so they did not leave prints.

Officers located the victim of the burglary in the 1200 block of SW 22 Place.  The victim was told of the burglary and wanted to press charges. Long and Michlec were arrested for Burglary of a Conveyance, Petit Theft and Possession of Burglary Tools.
