(June 14, 2017)-  A 2-vehicle crash snarled a major intersection at rush hour, sending one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

At around 4:30 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to the intersection of SE 47th Terrace and Del Prado Boulevard on a 2-car crash.  The investigation revealed that the driver of one vehicle, Jeremy Ray Holland, W/M, 5-17-72, of Cape Coral, ran the red light and t-boned the second car.

The driver of the car that was hit, Pablo A. Zuniga, H/M, 10-4-85, of Cape Coral, was taken to the hospital after being extricated from his car, with several serious injuries.  Due to the severity of the injuries, the Major Crash Investigator responded and assumed the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

VEHICLE 1:  White 2005 Hyundai Sonata car.
DRIVER 1:  Jeremy Ray Holland, W/M, 5-17-72, of Cape Coral, Florida.                         
DRIVER INJURIES:  Holland suffered minor injuries (refused medical transport).

VEHICLE 2:  Red 1986 Nissan 300 ZX car.
DRIVER 2:  Pablo A. Zuniga, H/M, 10-4-85, of Cape Coral, Florida.
DRIVER INJURIES:  Zuniga suffered several serious injuries.

SYNOPSIS:  Vehicle 1 was South on Del Prado Boulevard in the 4700 block, in the right lane.  Vehicle 2 was stopped on SE 47 Terrace facing East, at the red light of Del Prado Boulevard.  The traffic signal turned red for South traffic.   The East traffic got a green light and started forward into the intersection.  Vehicle 1 ran the red light and t-boned into the driver’s side of Vehicle 2 in the intersection.  Both vehicles came to rest in the South lanes of Del Prado Boulevard at SE 47 Terrace.

During the traffic crash, the front of Vehicle 1 crushed severely into the driver’s door of Vehicle 2 causing serious injuries.  Cape Coral Fire Department responded and found the driver of Vehicle 2 pinned in the vehicle.  The driver was extricated from the vehicle and trauma alerted by ambulance to a local hospital.  The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention on scene.

Based on injuries, M/Cpl. Satterlee, Ofc. Fessel, and Forensics responded to start a Major Crash InvestigationAt the hospital, it was determined that the driver of Vehicle 2 suffered several serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The South lanes of Del Prado Boulevard in the 4700 block were shut down for approximately two hours for the crash investigation causing traffic delays.  This traffic crash IS NOT alcohol/drug related.  All next-of-kin HAVE BEEN contacted.
