(June 28, 2017)- Cape Coral Police Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a fraudster.
The suspect approaches a potential victim in a parking lot, saying there is brake fluid on the ground under their vehicle. He identifies himself as a "mechanic" and gets under the vehicle, to "assist." While he is down there, he loosens the brake-line, has the victim step on the brakes, causing the pedal to go to the floor. He then tells them he can fix it. He gets a $3 bottle of brake fluid, tightens the brake-line cap, replaces the fluid, and is given "money for his troubles."
Cape Coral Police are asking any members of the public who were approached by this person to contact the Cape Coral Police Department and file a report. Due to potential damage and the safety hazard this presents, if work was done on your car by this suspect, please have your vehicle inspected by a professional and see if that professional can supply paperwork indicating the reason for the inspection and any findings.
The suspect is possibly driving a black Nissan 4 door, FL tag #2819QD. No suspect descriptors were provided.
