(July 20, 2017) - A pedestrian involved in a March crash has died as a result of her injuries. The Cape Coral Police Department was notified by the Medical Examiner, and a delayed fatality Traffic Homicide Investigation is being conducted. The original synopsis of the crash is below:

VEHICLE 1:  White Toyota Camry 4-door car.
DRIVER 1:  Cory M. Jakubuwski, W/M, 12/20/1994, 5425 Sands Boulevard, Cape Coral, Florida, 33914
DRIVER 1 INJURIES:  Jakubuwski suffered minor injuries in the traffic crash.

Pedestrian 1: Diane M. Vivona, W/F, 7/12/1957, 523 SE 24th Avenue, Cape Coral, Florida, 33990.
Pedestrian 1 Injuries: Vivona suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries in the traffic crash.

SYNOPSIS:

On March 20, 2017 at 0015 hours, Vehicle 1 was traveling West on Cape Coral Parkway W approaching the intersection with SW 23rd Ave. Pedestrian Diane Vivona was walking West in the middle of the West lane of Cape Coral Parkway W near the intersection with SW 23rd Ave. The driver of Vehicle 1 stated that he suddenly realized Vivona was walking in the roadway, but was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. The front of Vehicle 1 collided with Vivona. Vivona struck the hood and windshield of Vehicle 1 and then came to final rest in the West lane of Cape Coral Pkwy W. Vehicle 1 came to final rest in the West lane of Cape Coral Pkwy W.

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered minor injuries in the crash. Vivona suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital. Vivona was eventually placed under Hospice care and died on 7/16/2017. The Lee County Medical Examiner advised that Vivona’s original crash injuries contributed to her death.

Alcohol is not a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
