(July 3, 2017)- Cape Coral Police Detectives are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital.
Last night around 10:30 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a report of a shooting at 1906 NE 24th Avenue.
A male phoned stating that he was shot and immediately disconnected. Communications continued calling the male back but he would not answer. As officers were arriving and staging south of the residence, Communications advised that they received a call that a white male had just arrived in his vehicle at the fireworks stand at 704 NE 13th Avenue with a gunshot wound. The male was stating that he was shot on NE 24th Avenue, but would not provide any other information.
Officers and EMS responded and met with the male to provide care and to get additional information. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officers set up two tactical teams to approach the residence at 1906 NE 24th Avenue utilizing the Bearcat and Aviation. Blood was found in the driveway of the residence.
Officers used the PA system to give commands to the residents to come out. A male and female exited the residence and were detained. Officers conducted a protective sweep of the residence and did not find any other victims.
Investigative Services Bureau Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded and took over the investigation. Forensics personnel responded to assist.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives do not believe this to be a random incident and do not believe there to be a danger to the public at-large. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
