(January 2, 2019)-  The Cape Coral Police Department hosted a basketball skills camp December 26 through 28, 2018. School Resource Officer Coby Palmer came up with the idea to have the skills camp at Oasis Middle School, where he is also their SRO. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management from UMass-Amherst, has coached basketball at the middle school and high school level in Massachusetts and at the high school level in Florida. Additionally, he spent time as an Assitant Coach at the college level at Curry College in Boston. He taught basketball skills for the New York Knicks basketball camp and Five Star basketball camp as well. He started off working as a manager for the UMass Men’s basketball team where he helped oversee day to day operations.

This camp had 75 kids sign-up where each paid $15 for a three day skills training at Oasis Middle School. Camp was comprised of elementary and middle school kids grades 3 to 8 from various schools in Cape Coral. The purpose was to have them learn basketball skills and spend time with twelve (12) SROs who worked the camp and taught the kids. Prizes were given away and pizza was donated by Overtime Pizza.  The Police Athletic League sponsored this camp and Kona ice supplied some treats as well. Every kid went home with a customized tee shirt.
