(December 10, 2018)- The 2nd Annual Florida Gulf Coast Police K9 Competition will be held on January 5, 2019 from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM at Island Coast High School; 2125 De Navarra Pkwy, Cape Coral, FL 33909. The event will be a part of the Heroes and Hounds charity event to support the Holidays 4 Heroes foundation and our own K9 Unit. The Holidays 4 Heroes foundation is a locally owned charity organization dedicated to sending care packages overseas to soldiers deployed during the holidays.
About the Competition: As of right now approximately 25 K9 teams representing 12 agencies across Florida will compete in a timed Handler/K9 obstacle course. The second part of the competition will be a fastest/hardest hitting dog competition, where all the handlers will have the opportunity to send the dog downfield to apprehend a decoy. The events are designed to showcase the agility, obedience, and hard work all the K9’s and their handlers put in to operate on a high level. This year, we have added a civilian division to the obstacle course, so that several local trainers and handlers from surrounding K9 Clubs will have the opportunity to test their abilities as well.
About the Event: The Hounds for Heroes event that hosts our K9 Competition is entirely free to the public and is very family friendly. Parking will be at the event and free as well. We only ask that while there, attendees donate something to one of the amazing charitable causes featured at the event’s vendor area. In addition to Holidays 4 Heroes, we are proud to have several other small, local, charity organizations who deserve recognition and support for their efforts to improve the community. The event will also have a large vendor expo with many items for sale or promotion. The Cape Coral Police Department K9 Unit, SWAT Team, and Fire Department will have their equipment on display, and just as last year there will be bounce houses for the kids. We moved the event to the stadium at Island Coast High School this year to support the unexpectedly large crowd we had at last year’s event, so that it would be better viewed by all attendees. Additionally, this year we will be having a food truck rally at the event featuring some of south Florida’s top-rated Food Trucks.

T-Shirts: Our event t-shirts (see below design) will be on sale for $15 for adult sizes and $10 for children’s. We were lucky to have Jessie of BlackDawg Photography design our shirts this year and she will also be providing photography at the event.

There is a vetting process for all civilian applicants to ensure they meet minimum safety requirements and capabilities, and there are limited spots available for both civilian and LEO entries.
