(March 21, 2018) -  A man got into a traffic crash while intoxicated, leading to the discovery of narcotics in his vehicle.

On March 18, 2018 at approximately 7:30 a.m. officers responded to a traffic crash at the 5800 block of Chiquita Boulevard South. A silver Kia Forte was found crashed with a man unconscious behind the wheel. A royal palm tree had been split in two and a street sign knocked down, with tire marks across nearby lawns and through a side street. The driver was identified as Impiyakhe Smiley (DOB: 3-21-86). Medics arrived and treated Smiley, transporting him to a local hospital for evaluation.

During an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing a Glock 19 handgun was found in the center console lying on top of a bag containing 41.3 grams of cocaine, a bag containing 14.3 grams of crack cocaine, and two small baggies containing 15.3 grams of marijuana. Smiley was charged with driving under the influence, DUI property damage (3 counts), cocaine trafficking, and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Lee County Jail after receiving medical attention.
