The previous news release is below:

On April 25, 2017 at approximately 3:45 p.m. the Cape Coral Police Department received a call from a victim who stated he was driving and being chased, and had been shot at by a man known to him in the area of the 200 block of Del Prado Boulevard North. The victim was heading toward Cape Coral Police Department headquarters still actively being chased, and was stopped nearby by Cape Coral Police Department officers and detectives for his safety. His assailant broke off the chase upon nearing the police station. The subsequent investigation conducted by the Major Crimes Unit developed probable cause for the arrest of Justus Pierce (DOB: 5-12-97) on charges of attempted second degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Pierce was located the next day by the Cape Coral Police Department's U.S. Marshals Task Force liaison detective and arrested. Yesterday, a jury found Pierce guilty on all counts. Pierce will be sentenced at a later date.

"We are enormously proud of the work done by our Major Crimes Unit detectives, patrol officers, Forensics personnel, dispatchers, and everyone who worked diligently on this case to not only produce a quick arrest and preserve lives, but did so in a thorough and professional manner that resulted in this conviction yesterday. A dangerous man will be off the streets for a long time because of the work done by all of them and by our partners at the State Attorney's Office."   ~Cpl. Phil Mullen, CCPD Public Affairs Office
