(June 20, 2018) - Internet circulation of an address being attributed to a possible Broward County homicide suspect is INACCURATE, and the possible suspect has NO KNOWN CONNECTIONS to Cape Coral or Lee County.
In the social media aftermath following the murder of Jahseh Onfroy (aka rapper XXXtentacion) in Deerfield Beach (on the east coast of Florida), an address within the city of Cape Coral was shared to social media and became widespread. The Cape Coral Police Department made contact with the residents at this address. They have NO association with the possible suspect being named on social media. Due to the large number of online threats of violence toward the suspect (and thus toward this inaccurate Cape Coral address), both the Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Sheriff's Office have placed officers in the area/neighborhood of the inaccurate address as a safety measure for those in the area.
One arrest in close proximity to the inaccurate address has already been made on the charge of loitering and prowling. Law enforcement will be conducting extra patrols in the area until the situation is resolved.
Once more for emphasis and to anyone with the ill-advised idea of coming to an inaccurate location to do anyone harm: The Cape Coral Police Department is stressing today that internet circulation of an address being attributed to a possible Broward County homicide suspect is INACCURATE, and the possible suspect has NO KNOWN CONNECTIONS to Cape Coral or Lee County.
The homicide investigation is being conducted by the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information on that case is asked to contact BCSO at (954) 321-4210.
