(July 22, 2018)- On July 22, 2018, Cape Coral Police responded to a traffic crash at the 900-block of Cape Coral Pkwy E where it was reported that a vehicle struck a pedestrian. Major Crash Investigators, Drug Recognition Expert, Forensic Technician, and a Victim Advocate responded. It was learned that the pedestrian suffered a fatality due to the traffic crash. The investigation is ongoing and Cape Coral Police Department is attempting to identify other vehicles and drivers from this crash. DATE: July 22, 2018
TIME: 5:22 am
LOCATION: 900-block Cape Coral Parkway East
VEHICLE 1: 2012 silver Chevy Malibu 4-door, Florida tag# BUPB15.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Was not injured in the crash.
PEDESTRIAN 1: Steven A. Grant, DOB: 06/05/1964, B/M, Homeless, Cape Coral, Florida.
PEDESTRIAN 1 INJURIES: Grant suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound in the inside travel lane of the 900-block of Cape Coral Parkway East, just east of the intersection at SE 8th Court. Pedestrian 1 was walking across the eastbound lanes of Cape Coral Parkway East mid-block, outside of the available marked crosswalks. Pedestrian 1 crossed in front of Vehicle 1 causing the front of Vehicle 1 to impact Pedestrian 1. Pedestrian 1 came to final rest in the eastbound center travel lane of Cape Coral Parkway East, approximately 100 feet from the area of impact. Vehicle 1 made a controlled stop and came to rest in the inside travel lane of Cape Coral Parkway East.
Witness statements indicate that several vehicles struck Pedestrian 1 immediately following the initial impact with Vehicle 1 but failed to stop at the scene afterwards. The investigation to identify the additional vehicles and drivers is ongoing.
Grant suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of Vehicle 1 was not injured.

Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor from the driver of Vehicle 1 in the traffic crash. Alcohol/drugs are yet to be determined for the pedestrian. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
