(July 25, 2018)- On July 24, 2018 at approximately 10 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a traffic crash involving a tractor trailer car hauler. It was determined that the semi-truck and car hauler was the only vehicle involved in the crash. The driver was taken to a local hospital where he currently remains for treatment. Below is a synopsis from the Major Crash Investigator.

LOCATION: 1000-block Cape Coral Parkway East
VEHICLE 1: 1999 blue Peterbilt semi-truck with attached car hauler, Florida tag# CA24AT.
DRIVER 1: Awaiting Next of Kin notification
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital (possible medical episode).
Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound in the outside travel lane of the 1000-block of Cape Coral Parkway East, just east of the intersection at Leonard Street. Vehicle 1 drifted right, mounted the raised curb and struck a tree planted on the sidewalk. Vehicle 1 continued east where it struck a traffic sign, then struck a light pole, then drove through a line of hedges along the sidewalk edge. Vehicle 1 finally struck a palm tree on the right side of the roadway and came to final rest approximately 128 feet from the area of initial impact.
The driver of Vehicle 1 was transported to a local hospital. Hospital staff advised that the driver suffered a medical episode in addition to non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the crash. The driver is listed as critical.

It is unknown if alcohol/drugs are a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE NOT BEEN notified.
