(July 3, 2018)-  The Cape Coral Police Department responded to an early afternoon traffic crash involving a moped at the 2300 block of Country Club Blvd. The lone rider was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A Major Crash Investigator responded to the scene, and a Ping4alert was sent warning drivers to avoid the area. The Major Crash Investigator's synopsis is below:

LOCATION: Country Club Blvd (2300 block)

VEHICLE 1:   2013 black Zhongneng Blaze Moped.

DRIVER 1:   Roxanne C Aring, 02/01/1953, W/F, 4816 Triton Court E Unit 1, Cape Coral, Florida 33904.

DRIVER 1 INJURIES:   Aring suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling northbound in the outside right lane of Country Club Boulevard passing the intersection of SE 24th Street. Vehicle 1 suddenly swerved to the left diagonally across both northbound lanes of Country Club Boulevard. The front wheel of Vehicle 1 struck a raised concrete median and the vehicle continued northbound scraping along the concrete median. Vehicle 1 scraped along the median for approximately 36 feet and Driver 1 was ejected from the moped. Vehicle 1 struck multiple bushes in the median before coming to a final rest laying against the curb left of the inside lane of Country Club Boulevard. Driver 1 went airborne in a northwest direction over the median and came to a final rest in the south bound left turn lane for SE 24th Street. Driver 1’s final rest was approximately 15 feet from the final rest of Vehicle 1.

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered what were initially believed to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Updated information from Lee Memorial Hospital revealed that the driver’s injuries were life threatening in nature. Driver 1 is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Due to injuries, Major Crash Investigators responded to the scene. A Victim's Advocate, a Forensic Technician, and a Drug Recognition Expert also responded.  

This traffic crash IS alcohol/drug related.  The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified.

Driver 1 was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
