(August 31, 2018)- A man asks to use the convenience store phone, gets into a verbal argument, batters the store clerk, commits robbery, damages property, and tries to flee.
On August 31st, 2018, at around 2:45 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to the Shell Gas Station located at 2231 Del Prado Boulevard South for a call for service in reference to a robbery.
Information was given that the suspect was described as a black male wearing a black shirt that had writing on it, “Hooters”, and that he had left the scene in a light-colored Chrysler four door with the tag covered.
The first arriving officer arrived on scene and saw the silver Chrysler with the tag covered by a black cloth leaving the shell gas station area. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the Chrysler at the intersection of SE 21st Lane and SE 17th Place.
The passenger, was identified as the suspect through investigation and identified as Evon Andre Dawkins (B/M, DOB: 07/27/1994, 1229 NE 13th Ave). The black cloth was removed from the license plate which was the black Hooter’s t-shirt.
The victim who was the Shell Gas Station clerk had allowed Dawkins to use the business phone after he had asked. After Dawkins was done using the phone a verbal argument ensued and Dawkins went behind the counter and told the victim was going to punch him. Dawkins then pushed the victim and demanded a “Gabba Leaf” cigars. Dawkins then took a big box of Gabba Leaf from the top shelf and left the store without paying. Dawkins also pushed over a display case causing damage.
Dawkins was charged with Robbery, Battery, and Criminal Mischief.
