(January 21, 2019)-  Cape Coral Police are investigating a fatal injury traffic crash that sent one to the hospital.

On January 19, 2019 around 1:29 AM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a two vehicle traffic crash at the 1400 block of SE 23rd Ter. 

One person was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries who later died. A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation.

The preliminary synopsis of the Major Crash Investigator is below:

VEHICLE 1: Black 2018 Arctic Cat Alterra 4-wheel ATV, no Florida tag.  

VEHICLE 1 DRIVER: David Anthony Giompalo II, W/M, 10/14/1968, 2302 SE 15th St, Cape
Coral, FL.

DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Giompalo suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

VEHICLE 2: Grey 2012 Chevrolet Equinox SUV.

VEHICLE 2 DRIVER: Vehicle 2 was parked and unoccupied.


Vehicle 1 exited the driveway of the residence at 1414 SE 23rd Place and turned south. After traveling less than 100 feet south along SE 23rd Place, Vehicle 1 veered suddenly to the left. The driver of Vehicle 1 was ejected from the right side of the ATV and came to final rest in the north lane of SE 23rd Place. The ATV continued rolling to the southeast and left the east side of the roadway. After traveling diagonally across the lawns of two homes, Vehicle 1’s left front tire collided with the rear bumper of Vehicle 2, which was parked unoccupied on the driveway of 1425 SE 23rd Place.

The driver of Vehicle 1 suffered life threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma alerted to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of Vehicle 1 was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash.

Alcohol/drugs ARE a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
