Cape Coral Police investigated a serious injury traffic crash that sent one person to the hospital.
On January 8, 2019 around 6:15 PM, Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service in reference to a two vehicle and pedestrian traffic crash at the 800 block of Cape Coral Pkwy E.
The pedestrian was hospitalized with potential life-threatening injuries. Major Crash Investigator J. Barkley, a Victim Advocate, Forensics, and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation. A Ping4alerts! was sent, warning drivers and residents of the traffic hazard.
One of the vehicles left the scene and fled east bound on Cape Coral Pkwy E. A witness who was at a nearby business witnessed the crash and followed the vehicle. The witness continued to give police the direction of travel and location of the vehicle. The witness followed directly behind the blue vehicle until he was able to get it blocked in on Country Club Blvd just south of Veterans Pkwy. Seconds after blocking the vehicle in Police arrived on scene.
The investigation revealed the driver involved in the crash that also fled the scene was Andrea Paredes was placed under arrest and was charged with Failing to stop or remain at a crash scene involving injury, Failing to stop or remain at a crash scene involving property damage, and Driving while license suspended with knowledge. Paredes was later transferred to Lee County Jail.

VEHICLE 1: 2016 blue Nissan Versa.
DRIVER 1: Andrea Nicole Paredes, 10/10/1994, W/F, 219 SE 30th St, Cape Coral, FL, 33904
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Paredes suffered no injuries in the crash.
VEHICLE 2: Nissan Titan.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Suffered no injuries in the crash.
PEDESTRIAN 1: VICTIM, W/F, 88 years old
PEDESTRIAN 1 INJURIES: Suffered what was originally thought to be life threatening injuries.
Vehicle 1 was traveling east bound in the left turn lane at the intersection of SE 8th CT/Cape Coral Pkwy E waiting to make a U-turn to go west bound.
Vehicle 2 was traveling west bound on Cape Coral Pkwy E in the right outside lane stopped within traffic just west of SE 8th CT.
Pedestrian 1 was standing on the north side of Cape Coral Pkwy waiting for traffic to clear, so she could cross south bound across Cape Coral Pkwy.
Traffic cleared, and Pedestrian 1 began crossing at the same time Vehicle 1 began making a U-turn.
The front bumper of Vehicle 1 struck Pedestrian 1 and continued forward striking the rear bumper of Vehicle 2 pinning Pedestrian 1 between the two vehicles.
Driver 1 fled the scene. A witness to the crash followed Vehicle 1 giving updated locations to 911 until Officers were able to locate the Vehicle 1 and detain the driver.
Pedestrian 1 was transported to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol/drugs are NOT a factor in this traffic crash. Next of kin have NOT been notified.
Driver 1 was arrested and charged with Hit & Run involving injury other than serious bodily injury under F.S.S. 316.027 (2A), Hit & Run with property damage under F.S.S. 316.061 (1) and Driving while license suspended with knowledge under F.S.S. 322.34 (2A).
