(April 2, 2019)- Officer Jason Behun is currently assigned to the Training Unit as the Senior Training Officer within the Professional Standards Bureau. 

Officer Behun traveled to Abu Dhabi, UAE to instruct the Abu Dhabi Police SWAT team for the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). The tactical training lasted for 3 weeks and included High Risk Warrant Service, Barricaded Subjects, Hostage Rescue and Active Shooter. The Abu Dhabi Police have four full-time twenty-five-man SWAT teams. The training was conducted for one of the twenty-five-man teams and was a total of 120 hours. Future training for the other teams is currently being scheduled.

His background in law enforcement, training, knowledge and tactics is renown internationally and is an asset to the Cape Coral Police Department. 

Officer Jason Behun has a diverse background:

  • Pittsburgh Police Department, Police Officer, assigned to the Pittsburgh Police Zone 3 Patrol Bureau (1994‐2000)

  • Assigned to the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Tactical Operations Section, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit full‐time. Responsible for conducting SWAT training in all areas relating to SWAT deployment, tactics, command and management. Was assigned as a Tactical Commander/Team Leader and Lead Trainer (2000‐2007).

  • Assigned as an adjunct instructor at the Pittsburgh Police Training Academy for firearms, defensive tactics, TASER, chemical agents and riot control operations (2003‐2007).

  • Cape Coral Police Department, assigned to the Patrol Bureau (2007‐2009)

  • Assigned to the Cape Coral Police Training Unit. Responsible for planning and conducting in‐service and pre‐deployment training for firearms, defensive tactics, less lethal weapons, law and liability, vehicle operations, Force Science Analyst and high-risk patrol tactics (2009‐Present).

  • Assigned to the Cape Coral Police SWAT Unit (2008‐Present), currently responsible for planning and conducting all related tactical training and assigned as a team leader.

  • Eastern Regional Director for the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) (2014 – Present).

  • Instructor for the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), Pennsylvania Tactical Officers Association (PATOA), Ohio Tactical Officers Association (OTOA) and the Florida SWAT Association (FSA).

  • Florida SWAT Association (FSA) region VI representative (2010‐2014).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology/Criminology from West Virginia University.
