(June 28, 2019) - The following are the Cape Coral Police Department’s DUI arrests between June 21st and June 27th, 2019.

The easiest way to not get a DUI is to NOT drive impaired. If you are going out to partake in adult beverages, designate a sober driver or utilize an alternate form of transportation: Uber, Lyft, taxi, bus, etc. Don’t take the chance of ruining a life, including your own.

ARRESTED: Robert Barry Richardson, W/M, DOB: 9-2-71, of 2316 SE 16th Street, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence, DUI Property Damage

CCPD Patrol officers responded to a single vehicle crash in front of 1303 Del Prado Boulevard South (Anthony’s on the Boulevard) involving a car hitting a light pole. Contact was made with Richardson (the driver), who showed signs of impairment. Following the traffic crash investigation, a DUI investigation was conducted. Richardson performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI. BAC%: Refused.

ARRESTED: Stephen Edward Powers, W/M, DOB: 3-8-71, of 714-A SW Pine Island Road, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence

A CCPD Patrol officer stopped Powers at the 200 block of Cape Coral Parkway West for running a red light and failing to maintain a single lane. Signs of impairment were observed and a DUI investigation ensued. Powers performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was placed under arrest. BAC%: .015 / .013. After the breath test, a Drug Recognition Expert officer responded and determined Powers was indeed impaired.

ARRESTED: Nicole Adele Mercado, W/F, DOB: 3-4-88, of 870 Java Plum, North Fort Myers FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence, DUI Property Damage, Hit and Run

CCPD Patrol officers responded to a traffic crash at the 4000 block of Del Prado Boulevard South where the suspect vehicle had fled, leaving behind heavy damage. An officer located the damaged vehicle leaving the scene and conducted a traffic stop. The driver (Mercado) showed signs of impairment, performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was arrested. BAC%: Refused.

ARRESTED: Bettie Joe Emrah, W/F, DOB: 8-6-38, of 5704 SW 10th Avenue, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence with BAC% Over .15%, DUI Property Damage

CCPD Patrol officers responded to a traffic crash involving Emrah and a parked vehicle at the 5100 block of Atlantic Court. A wheel witness reported to officers that his vehicle was hit by Emrah. Following the traffic crash investigation, a DUI investigation ensued after Emrah showed signs of impairment. Emrah performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was placed under arrest for DUI. BAC%: .157 / .153

ARRESTED: Robert Michael Vona III, W/M, DOB: 1-9-86, of 2118 NE 20th Avenue, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence

CCPD Patrol officer responded to the area of Hancock Creek Boulevard and Pondella Road after it was reported a driver in a red Mustang was passed out behind the wheel of his car for approximately 15 minutes. An officer located the Mustang driving on the wrong side of the road at the 900 block of Pondella Road and conducted a traffic stop. Contact was made with the driver (Vona), who was arrested after a DUI investigation. BAC%: .000 / .000. A Drug Recognition Expert officer then determined Vona was under the influence of opioids; Vona submitted to a presumptive urine test which confirmed this.

ARRESTED: John Hayes, W/M, DOB: 4-12-66, of 701 SE 36th Street, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence

A CCPD Patrol officer stopped Hayes at the 600 block of SE 47th Terrace for a red-light violation. Upon contact Hayes showed signs of impairment, and a DUI investigation ensued. Hayes performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI. BAC%: .143 / .143

ARRESTED: Zachary James Laudick, W/M, DOB: 5-5-86, of 4108 Chiquita Boulevard South, Cape Coral FL.

CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence

A CCPD Patrol officer stopped Laudick for speeding at the 900 block of Cape Coral Parkway West (63mph in a 45 mph zone).  Upon contact Laudick showed signs of impairment, and a DUI investigation ensued. Laudick performed poorly on field sobriety exercises and was arrested for DUI. BAC%: .137 / .127
