(July 26, 2019) - A driver involved in a traffic crash a week ago who initially suffered serious injuries has died.

The original traffic crash occurred on July 16th, 2019. On July 23rd, 2019, the Cape Coral Traffic Homicide Unit received word that the driver of Vehicle 1 had died as a result of the injuries he suffered during the traffic crash.

VEHICLE 1: Black 2014 Toyota FRS 2-door car, Florida tag IH51KC.
DRIVER 1: Solomon J. Barrett, B/M, 2/23/1984, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Barrett died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

VEHICLE 2: Grey 2002 Mazda Protégé station wagon, Florida tag Y89EXJ.
DRIVER 2: Mijail E. Belilla Cruceta, W/M, 2/24/1984, of Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Cruceta suffered serious injury in the crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 was traveling west on Kismet Pkwy W in the inside lane approaching the intersection with NW 19th Court. Vehicle 1 was traveling east on Kismet Pkwy W in the inside lane approaching the intersection with NW 19th Court. Vehicle 1 failed to yield the right of way and turned left onto NW 19th Court into the path of Vehicle 2. The front of Vehicle 2 collided with the passenger side door of Vehicle 1 (T-bone crash). Vehicle 1 rotated counter-clockwise and came to final rest facing east off of the roadway on the southeast corner of the intersection. Vehicle 2 rotated clockwise and came to final rest facing west in the east outside lane of Kismet Pkwy W. 

The driver of Vehicle 1 was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries which were not thought to be life threatening. On July 23, 2019, the Cape Coral Police Traffic Homicide Unit was notified by the District 21 Medical Examiner’s office that Solomon J. Barrett died at Lee Memorial Hospital as a result of complications from injuries he suffered in the traffic crash.

The driver of Vehicle 2 was injured in the crash and was also transported to a local hospital.

Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
