DRIVER 1: Jivon Angel Rodriguez, W/M, Zephyrhills, FL.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Jivon Rodriguez suffered serious injury in the crash.
PASSENGER 1: Shawn Gloria Scaife, W/F, Spring Hill, FL.
PASSENGER 1 INJURIES: Shawn Scaife suffered serious injury in the crash.
VEHICLE 2: Grey, 2013, Ford Edge, SUV, Florida tag.
DRIVER 2: Franklin Mihacy, W/M, Cape Coral, FL.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Mihacy suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Vehicle 1 was traveling north on Del Prado Boulevard S in the center lane approaching the intersection with SE 14th Street. Surveillance video from a nearby business indicate that immediately prior to the traffic crash, Vehicle 1 was traveling at more than twice the posted speed limit. Vehicle 2 was traveling south on Del Prado Boulevard S approaching the intersection with SE 14th Street and entered the center median left turn lane. Vehicle 2 turned left across the path of Vehicle 1. The front of Vehicle 1 collided with the passenger side of Vehicle 2 (T-bone crash) in the outside lane of Del Prado Boulevard S.
After impact, Vehicle 1 rotated clockwise approximately 180 degrees and it came to final rest facing south in the outside lane of Del Prado Boulevard S, approximately 65’ north of the area of impact. The impact from Vehicle 1 caused Vehicle 2 to travel to the northeast as it rotated approximately 180 degrees. The right side of Vehicle 2 collided with an electrical utility box and a telephone pole, which caused Vehicle 2 to rotate clockwise an additional 90 degrees; Vehicle 2 came to final rest on the sidewalk near the telephone pole.
The driver and passenger of Vehicle 1 suffered serious injury in the crash and were trauma alert transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver of Vehicle 2 also suffered serious injury in the crash and was also trauma alert transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
Major Crash Investigators P. Wilson and D. Gray, and DRE Lt. A. Kolak responded. CCPD Victims Advocate M. Pena also responded.
Alcohol/drugs ARE NOT a factor in the traffic crash. Next-of-kin HAVE BEEN notified.
At this time SPEED is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours during this investigation.
